Charles Franklin Colbert

Charles Franklin Colbert, 89, passed away on January 5, 2022.  Per his wishes, the rite of cremation was accorded, and inurnment will be at a later date.  A Celebration of Life Service will be held on July 16, 2022 at 11 AM at Park View Lutheran Church in Eldridge.

Charles (Chuck or Charlie) was born July 15, 1932, in Menlo, Iowa, the son of Charles G. and Sarah Geneva Harkins Colbert.  He graduated from Hansel High School, Hansel, Iowa.  Chuck was a proud Marine and served during the Korean War.  He attended college at Buena Vista University, Storm Lake, Iowa and Gates Business College in Waterloo, Iowa.  While at Gates he met his wife, Barbara Burns.  They were united in marriage on January 19, 1958.  Chuck worked for Warren Transport, Inc., Waterloo, Iowa for 40 years, first in accounting and then as Terminal Manager of the Moline, Illinois office.  He was a St. Louis Cardinal fan and an avid, loyal University of Iowa Hawkeye fan.  He was a member of Park View Lutheran Church.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Barbara; daughters, Joan (Jerry, Sr.) Serrano, Carol Colbert, Rebecca Colbert; and son, Charles G. Colbert II; grandchildren, Jerry, Jr., Christopher, Mindy, Jesse, Mick, Ahleah, Brandon, Kasey, Cody, and Lindsey; and 21 great grandchildren.  Also surviving are nieces, nephews, and members of the Harper family that accepted him into their family while attending school in Hansel, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Alan, Doyle, Donald, and Bruce; and sisters, Ruby Waltz and Eloise Adams; one granddaughter, and one great-granddaughter; daughter-in-law, Linda Colbert (6/19/2022).  He was also preceded by his Boston Terriers, Pudge and Charlie.

The family would like to thank Genesis Hospice (Denise and Tiffany) for their loving care of Chuck.

Memorial donations may be made to Scott County Humane Society or Kings Harvest Pet Rescue, both in Davenport, Iowa.
