Jerry Linn Hart
Jerry Linn Hart, 65, passed away due to complications from cancer on Thursday, Feb. 17 at his home in New Hampton, Iowa.
Jerry was born in Elma, Iowa to Dale and Evelyn Hart on May 1, 1956. Alongside his four older siblings, Jerry grew up camping, hunting, fishing, and helping out at his family’s Chevy car dealership. He was well-known for his aptitude and love for singing. Every local funeral, celebration, Christmas pageant, or play featured Jerry Hart as the headliner.
Following his high school graduation in 1974, he pursued a degree in music theory at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, where he was the youngest student to sing in the college’s prestigious Nordic Male Choir. Jerry was the lead singer in two different rock bands, Armageddon and Onyx, and toured the country singing hard rock covers like “Mississippi Queen.” Jerry returned to Iowa to pursue a career as a professional photographer, opening up his studio on Main Street in New Hampton in 1989. Jerry shared his great love for fishing, vintage cars, and the outdoors with his four sons and they all cherished spending time with him.
Wherever he went, Jerry made instant friends and could make anyone smile or laugh with his jokes and sense of humor. Jerry always said, “Old rockers never die, they just fade away,” but anyone who met him will fondly remember Jerry.
Jerry is survived by his children, Noah, Nick, Elijah and Sammy, two brothers, Joe and Jim, and life-long friend Christy Mann. Jerry’s family expresses gratitude for all Christy did to take care of and comfort Jerry in his final months. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Arthur and Jenny, parents, Dale and Evelyn, and his sisters, Judy and Joyce.
A Celebration on life will be held in the spring. Contributions to cremation are appreciated. Please visit the family’s fundraiser at: https://www.paypal.com/pools/c/8HnpEH3RzV?fbclid=IwAR3dI4cXelAuGrr6N8ziqxWpCwb-Z_r8PzrFmg5om42WH5BraIf86x4ZE6o
