Duane Dean Felton
Duane Dean Felton, son of Floy and Zora (Hutt) Felton was born March 4, 1932 in Cumming, IA, and at the age of 89 passed from this life on Tuesday February 1, 2022 surrounded by family.
Duane’s childhood was spent on the family farm at New Virginia, IA attending the rural country school, until they moved into town where he graduated from New Virginia High School in 1950.
He was united in marriage to Mary Ruth Hatcher on June 27, 1954 in New Virginia, where they raised three daughters.
Duane served in the U.S. Naval Reserves for 8 years. He farmed and had milk cows, raised hogs and shorthorn cattle and did row crops. Due to a back injury he switched to banking, serving as a loan officer in locations in Iowa, Minnesota and Illinois. Upon retiring, Duane and Mary Ruth moved to Lebanon, MO where they resided for 20 years, until returning to Iowa in 2020.
Duane’s passion with horses started while learning to drive society fine harness horses and then raising and showing quarter horses. He was involved in establishing the New Virginia Saddle Club and participated in and judged shows throughout Iowa and surrounding states. A favorite annual event was attending horse shows at the Iowa State Fair.
Relatives who preceded Duane in death were his parents and granddaughter Kristen Denny.
Duane leaves to cherish his memory: wife Mary Ruth, daughters Deb Felton of Des Moines IA, Ramona Rippel of Johnston IA, Karla Vaughn of Sigourney IA; grandchildren January Searcy of Boone IA, Megan Cason (Shane) of Sigourney IA, John Rippel of Breckenridge CO; great grandchildren Carrol, Riley, Paige, Sawyer, Lane and Korbyn; as well as other family and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Sigourney Library, 720 East Jackson St (Hwy 92) Sigourney IA on February 19, 2022 from 1-3pm.
