Donald Veryl Woeste

Donald Veryl Woeste, 93, of Terrace Glen Village, Marion passed away on December 31, 2022. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 6th from 12:00-1:00 with the funeral immediately following at 1:00 at Faith Bible Church in Cedar Rapids with Pastor Steve Benton officiating.  Interment will be at Cedar Memorial in Cedar Rapids.  A light lunch will follow at the church.

Donald was born June 9th, 1929 in Colesburg, Iowa, the son of Joseph and Carrie Woeste (Brockmeyer).  He married Charlene Bassett on June 3rd, 1951 and moved to Edgewood,  and together they raised five children, Mark (Dana) of Mantorville, MN, Donalyn Peter of Osage, IA, Karen of Cedar Rapids, Wanda (Scott) Ohrt of Cedar Rapids, IA and Judy (Jon) Greeb of Robins, IA.

Donald worked for the Edgewood-Colesburg School District for 32 years as a bus driver and mechanic/maintenance person.  He and Charlene belonged to the 1st Congregational Church of Edgewood, Iowa, where he was the Sunday School superintendent for many years.   In 1996, he and Charlene moved to Robins, IA and bought almost an acre of land and had a home built.  He established the flower and vegetable gardens for his wife, which featured a tiered bed, an arbor garden, a hosta bed, and hybrid and lily gardens.  He started a hobby of scrollsaw woodworking.  Each item that he made was done with love and the wish for joy to whoever it was given.  He made hundreds of items, which brought smiles to people when they were given out at Christmas and other events.

He and Charlene traveled extensively.  They visited many countries, all five continents and went on many cruises.  It was a joy for them to take their five children, spouses and grandchildren on six trips, including two trips to Alaska, Mexico, Costa Rica, Nova Scotia and a National Parks tour in the western United States.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his two brothers Stanley and Arvin, two sisters Gladys and Hazel , a son-in-law (Cal Peter) and his wife of 63 years.  He is survived by his five children, eight grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, one great grandson and five step-great granddaughters.
