Donald Richard Burk

Don Burk, 98, of Des Moines, died peacefully on December 28, 2022, with his family by his side.

A celebration of life will be held on January 2nd from 2:00-4:00 at The Life Center in Des Moines.

Don Burk was born in Brooklyn, Iowa, to Emil and Mildred (Bard) Burk on May 17th 1924. Don graduated from Grinnell High School in 1943 and served in the US Army Signal Corp in World War II. Don and Elaine Beaderstadt were married on August 30th 1946. Don worked as a tool and die maker for Maytag Corporation in Newton, Iowa, and H&H Tool and Die Company in Cedar Falls, Iowa. After retirement, Don enjoyed many years of camping, biking, wintering in Gulf Shores, AL, working in his shop and beating the pants off of his opponents in dominoes, bridge (he will forever be known as “Mister 3 No Trump”) and other strategy card games.

Don is survived by his wife of 76 years, Elaine, and daughters Rondi Kinney (Mike) of Omaha, NE, Renee Bridenstine of Ankeny, IA, and Rise Reynolds (Brad) of North Kansas City, MO, and eight grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the charity of your choice.
