Kristy Ann Songer

Kristy Ann Booth Songer passed away at the Anamosa Care Center on Friday, August 12, 2022.

Kris was born September 23, 1957, in Mason City, Iowa, to parents DeWitt (Skelly) Booth and Shirley (Northey) Booth, third child of four. The family moved to several Iowa towns to accommodate Skelly’s teaching career including Nashua, Reinbeck, Keokuk, Anamosa and Mt. Pleasant. Kris graduated from Anamosa High School in 1976 and went on to receive her journalism degree from Iowa State University in Ames, where she met the love of her life, Jeff Songer. They were married on October 17, 1980, in Hugoton, Kansas. During their 37 year marriage they lived in a lot of places including Kansas, Oklahoma, Georgia, Missouri, Illinois, Washington, Alabama, Kentucky and Iowa. Jeff passed away while they were in Kentucky in 2017 and Kris moved back to Anamosa in 2018.

During her adult life, Kris took great delight in being a fur-baby mom to two cats and twelve dogs that we know of. She loved them all.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and grandparents. She is survived by her sister, Marty (Rick) June, Anamosa; brother Ed (Brenda) Booth, Mason City, Iowa; and brother Andy (Lou) Booth of New London, Iowa, three nieces, three nephews and 12 of their children.

No funeral services will be held. A private family burial for both Kris and Jeff will be held at graveside at Cedar Memorial in Cedar Rapids at a later date.

Memorials may be directed to Mercy Hospital Hall Perrine Cancer Center patient care in Cedar Rapids, Camp Courageous in Monticello or any local animal welfare or humane society.

Special thanks for the loving care of Kris from her family goes to Lindsey and Meghan from Above and Beyond and the staff at the Anamosa Care Center.
