John Richard Dutcher
John Richard Dutcher, 98, of Marion, IA, formerly of Indianola, IA, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 28, 2022, from complications of the shingles.
A private internment will take place later at the St. Charles Cemetery, St. Charles, IA.
John Richard Dutcher was born December 6, 1923, in Winterset, IA, the son of John & Lizzie (Beardsley) Dutcher. On December 31, 1947, he married Kathryn Husted in Des Moines, IA. They were married 65 years until she passed on May 3, 2013. John was a mechanic in the family-owned Dutcher Service in Des Moines IA. He was later employed as an Auto Parts salesman for many years.
In John’s later life he enjoyed meeting his friends for coffee in the mornings, genealogy and wood working. He finished his last wood working projects just weeks before passing. No one liked a good joke better than John and he was referred to as the gadget man. He loved gadgets!
Survivors include 4 grandchildren: 11 great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn, daughter Patti Newgaard, parents John & Lizzie (Beardsley) Dutcher, three sisters Lora Brandon, Doris Haas and Opal Fish as well as a brother, Bill.
While living in Indianola John was blessed to have Gary Morrison as a good friend and almost daily visitor. Gary’s friendship and visits meant so much. The family cannot thank him and his wife enough and feel this friendship was a true gift.
Also, the family would like to thank Barb and Theresa Hammarmeister for being great neighbors and adopting John like a grandpa. Thank you for all the ears and eyes on him to keep us posted and all the great homemade meals you took down to him and all the other things.
