Rodney Lee Bales

Rodney Lee Bales was born in 1949 in Des Moines, IA. Very sadly he passed away on April 9, 2022. His wife Roni Robinson had 20 short years with him that weren't nearly enough. Rod was definitely his own man. He wasn't exactly the most social butterfly, but he deeply loved when he loved. He had 2 children from his first marriage, Brook Bales, residing in North Carolina and Monte Bales, residing in Des Moines, IA. His mother was Frances Bales (Hindahl) and his father was William Bales. He had an older brother Bill and he has a younger brother, Mike and his wife, Michele, and 2 sisters, Shirley and Karen. He talked of good memories on his grandparent's farm when he was small. That's where his love of animals, especially horses most likely began. He was retired from Ross-Daniels and had also worked for the city of Des Moines at the Botanical Center and 2 senior centers. His last job was at Broadlawns. He absolutely loved working in his yard and making it as beautiful as possible for himself and his wife and he loved his 2 greyhounds Woody and Whip, and his cat, Simon. His wife would like to thank Hilda, Hannah, and Chelsea with Suncrest Hospice for always lifting his spirits and putting up with his orneriness. She is also eternally grateful to her family and friends who have guided and helped her through this, you all know who you are.

Lastly, a message from a broken heart goes out to anyone who will hear: Please don't smoke. There have been too many broken hearts.
