John "Jack" P.C. Heick

John “Jack” P.C. Heick, 89, of Elkader, passed away on Monday, April 11, 2022 at his home surrounded by his loving family.  There will be no services at this time.

John Phillip Carl Heick was born on October 21, 1932 to John Phillip and Emma (Schmidt) Heick in Niles Center, Illinois.  He was raised on the family farm in Antioch, Illinois.  Jack was united in marriage to Jean Carol Winfield on May 12, 1956 in Bristol, Wisconsin.

He proudly served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict.  Following his honorable discharge from the service, he went into law enforcement with the Lake County Sherrif’s Department, serving 8 years in that post.  He then went on to hold the position of Chief of Police in Antioch, Illinois for 3 ½ years.  The family then moved to Elkader in 1971.

Jack graduated from the FBI training school and Northwestern University Law Enforcement training program.  

He was a member of the Antioch Rescue Squad, chapter member of the Antioch Rotary and owned and operated several businesses.  

Jack was preceded in death by his parents.

Left to cherish his memories is his loving wife of 65 years, Jean Heick; children, Joanne (Gerald) Severson and John Heick both of Elkader, IA, Jay (Anna) Heick of Lindenhurst, IL, James (Debra) Heick of Calmar, IA, and Justin (Debra “Vonnie”) Heick of Kingsville, MO; many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Memorial donations may be directed to the family.
