George L. Walker
George L. Walker, 73, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Saturday, April 16, 2022, at Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha. Per his request, a private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
George Walker was born March 3, 1949 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to Elvin and Grayce (Donovan) Walker. George graduated from Anamosa High School in 1968 and later earned 2 degrees from Kirkwood Community College. He was united in marriage with Arlene Kramer on May 8, 1971 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. They raised their family and continued to live in the Fairfax, Iowa area. George was a welder at Harnischfeger for many years. He went on to be a diesel mechanic at Truck Country until his retirement in 2010. During his retirement he spent his time hunting, fishing, gardening, helping local farmers, and attending his grandkid’s events. If you needed something fixed, you took it to “Mr. Fix-It”. He also enjoyed morning coffee with the guys at “Coffee Club”. George will be missed by those who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his wife, Arlene, son, Jason (Angie) Walker, daughters, Julie (Lee) Hakert, and Jeanne (Scott) Voyna. Grandchildren; Miranda and Colby Walker, Ben, Bailey, and Brayden Hakert, Emily, Brock, and Trenton Voyna. Brothers; Elvin, Ivan (Jana), and Jeri (Dawn). Sisters; Dianne Foster, Barbie (Dave) Colehour, and Kathy Walker (Rick). In-laws; Bev Walker, Merlin Oetken, and Peggy Walker, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
George was preceded in death by his parents, brothers; John, David, Edward, and Michel and sister, Janice Oetken.
