Jan Lee Paschell

Jan Lee Paschell, age 70, of Bouton, Iowa, departed this life on November 24, 2021, at the Bright Kavanagh House in Des Moines, IA. He was born on April 13, 1951, in Perry, IA to the late Barney and Lucille Paschell. Jan was married to his loving wife Dee Paschell on September 9, 1992.

Jan loved his country and served in the Army during the Vietnam War Era in Germany. He loved history, amassing a large amount of information on Dallas County, and especially the Bouton area. He also did a lot of genealogy, tracing his family tree back to the 1700’s and the family’s origins in Europe. Jan had many jobs throughout his life, starting with Bill’s Conoco in Minburn, Everett Songer as a farm hand, various places in maintenance; Child Serve, Des Moines Art Center, Madrid Public School and Garst Seed. He was an original member of the Bouton Betterment Committee and instrumental in the building of the Bouton Community Center. He served as City of Bouton’s mayor and on the city council.

Jan enjoyed woodworking, cooking/baking and spending time with his friends and family, especially his grandchildren. He loved his dogs Mandy and Ty of whom he is reunited with in passing.

He is survived by his family- his wife, Dee Paschell; three stepchildren, Melissa Simmons, Brian (Gretchen) Holst and Darrin (Laura) Holst; three grandsons, Ben Phillips, Cale Holst, and Layton Holst; five granddaughters, Jessica Phillips, Tessa Whitney, Breyonha (Keaton) Rhoades, Hannah Holst and Breelyn Holst; great grandson, Graham Rhoades; two brothers, Walt (Linda) Paschell and King Paschell; two sisters, Leora (Bob) James and Lyn Wilkinson. Besides his parents he was also preceded in death by one brother, Tony Paschell.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, December 4, 2021 at Lake Robbins Ballroom, Woodward, Iowa. Visitation starting at 10 AM, service at 11 AM, with a lunch to follow.
