Ilo May Moser
Ilo May Moser, 101, passed away on November 30, 2021 in her home in Edgewood after a short illness. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, December 11, 2021 at St. John's Church in Garber, IA.
Ilo was born September 23, 1920 to Elmer Clifford and Grace "Blanche" (Hansel) Morley. Elmer was a country schoolteacher, so the family moved each year to where he was teaching. They finally settled in Garber, IA where he was offered the position of postmaster. 'Moving to town' brought with it more friends and opportunities to socialize, and was, in fact, where Ilo first ran into the man who would be her husband. Ilo graduated from Elkport High School in 1939. Her first job was as a live-in nanny, hiring out to parents who needed help with their new babies, and older clients who needed additional help in their homes.
Ilo was united in marriage to Delbert H Moser in 1943. He was on furlough from the Army serving in World War II. She would often say the day he came home safe was the most important day of her life. They opened a gas station in Elkport, IA and served side by side running the operation for over 30 years. Several side businesses kept them busy in whatever down time they had; selling cars and Big Gain feed, and working as school custodians. Later, they operated the Standard Oil tankwagon in the area in addition to running the local grocery store. But family was everything to them, so their busy lives were made complete with the addition of two daughters, Darla and Wendy, who were raised with much love and devotion.
Ilo served as Elkport City Clerk for 31 years. She was active in St. Johns Church in Garber, serving as Women's Guild treasurer for 35 years. Crocheting and quilting were favorite hobbies and she produced countless beautiful doilies and quilts over her lifetime. Ilo enjoyed traveling, making it as far as Holland and France on trips with family members. She was the family historian, remembering everyone's birthdays and details of countless incidents in every life. She was very close to her four siblings, and they remained dedicated to each other their entire lives.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Delbert Moser; daughter, Darla Schroeder; grandson, Kenneth Schroeder; sisters and their spouses, Ina (Willard) Steen, Irma (Harley) Glawe, and Una (George) Porter; Delbert's siblings and their spouses, Selma (Maloy) Zittergruen, Delorres (Robert) Lewin, Leo Moser, and Bernita (Bernard) Leliefeld; and many extended family members.
Surviving to honor her memory are: daughter, Wendy Schroeder; grandsons Kirk Schroeder and Cody Schroeder (Stacy Davies); son-in-law, Robert Schroeder; brother, Lyle "Bud" Morley; honorary grandkids Trevor, Cayden, Alexis, and Lizy; cherished nieces and nephews; the Cousins, and many other family members and long-time friends.
Inurnment will be held at a later time in Bethel Cemetery, rural Osterdock, IA.
