Allen Haars

Allen Haars 83 of Guttenberg Iowa passes away Saturday November 27th at the Guttenberg Municipal Hospital. A celebration of life will be held on December 11 at the Guttenberg Golf and Country Club from 1-4 pm.

Allen Edward Haars was born on January 18th, 1938, in Urbana, Iowa son of Theodor and Frances Haars. He graduated from Center Point high school in 1956. Following graduation, he married Joyce Duncan on September 1, 1956. From this union one son Mitch was born. They later divorced. 

Allen Married Karen Brislawn on November 18th, 1972. He then embraced four more children. Karen passed away on May 2, 2009.

Allen married Tami Schmitt on October 1st, 2011. He again embraced 3 more children.

 Allen had many jobs over the years. He served two years in the Navy. He farmed for 23 years and was an elevator mechanic for 25 years. 

Allen loved life on the river, boating and fishing and in his younger days water skiing. He also loved to play golf and spend his winters in sunny Florida. He was an avid Cubs fan and enjoyed watching the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Allen will forever be loved and cherished by his wife Tami, four daughters Laurie (Kevin) Saylor of Osborne KS, Donna Fisher of Clancy MT, Jill Oliveira of Bridgeport CT, Valerie (Aaron) Hettinger of Strawberry Point, IA. Two sons Brian and TJ Schmitt of Guttenberg. One daughter in-law Terry Letts of Center Point, IA. One sister Cindy Haars of Walker IA, one sister in-law Mary (Joe) Mellon of Guttenberg three brother in-law Jerry Grishaber of Marion, IA, Rollin (Sandy) Seifert, Bob (Mary) Seifert of Garnavillo, IA  14 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; 11 great- great grandchildren. 

Allen was preceded death by his parents, two sons Mitch Haars, Paul Letts, two granddaughters Cassandra Fisher, and Amy Goncalves, one sister Charlotte Grishaber, one nephew Brett O’Brien.
