Alice Lucille Nichols

Alice Lucille Nichols, 84, of Ottumwa, formerly of Clinton, Iowa, passed away on November 25, 2021 at 11:02 AM at Hospice House in Ottumwa.  Alice was born on June 27, 1937 to Max Pitts and Mary Daniels Pitts Wiersema in Sterling, Ill.

Alice married Meryl D. Nichols on October 29, 1955 in Coleta, Ill.  Meryl preceded her in death on February 5, 2014. They were faithful members of Davis Street Christian Church.  Together they loved to garden and bird watch. Alice was also a wonderful seamstress. Even after losing most of her sight, she would sew pillow cases for her grandkids.  She loved to tell everyone she met to call her “Alice in Wonderland.” She had a wonderful sense of humor.

Alice is survived by her daughter, Konnie (Mark) Milder, of Ottumwa: Grandchildren, Amber Fettig and Zachary Miller of Oregon, Andrew Milder of Bloomington, Indiana and Amanda Grace Milder of Iowa City.  Great grandchildren; Blake Fettig, Kloie Fettig, Alicen Fettig, Dalton Miller, and Novalyn Duncan; one sister, Ruth Day of Georgia; three brothers, Wayne Pitts, Dale Wiersema, and Lyle Weirsema, all of Illinois.

Alice is preceded in death by her husband, Meryl; daughter, Kris Nichols; her parents; and four sisters.

As per Alice’s wishes, her body has been cremated and no services will be held. However, memorials can be made in her honor to Hospice of Wapello County or Davis Street Christian Church.
