Margaret A. Rankin, 86, of Iowa City, passed away Monday, June 28, 2021.
Margaret was born on February 1, 1935 in Ames, IA; the daughter of Meriden and Vida (Jorstad) Rankin. Margaret received a masters degree in Nursing from the University of Iowa College of Nursing and a doctorate from the University of Iowa College of Education. She enjoyed a long career as an educator with the University of Iowa College of Nursing before retiring in 1998. Margaret was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Iowa City.
Margaret enjoyed reading, cooking, gardening, sewing, quilting, watching Iowa Women’s Basketball, and taking care of her pets.
Margaret is survived by her siblings, Hila (Bob) Garms, David (Diane) Rankin, and Donna Blochowitz; nieces and nephews, Mindy (Bill) Dunlap, Matt (Angie) Garms, Dennis Rankin, Brian (Caroline) Rankin, Scott (Judy) Blochowitz, Hila Ann (Andy) Cartwright; several great nieces and nephews; and her cat Trixie.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents and brother-in-law, Roland Blochowitz.
There will be a memorial for Margaret for friends and family on July 31st.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to Trail of Johnson County or The Birdhouse Hospice.
