Larry Allen Engel

Larry Allen Engel, son of Adolph (Rosie) and Matilda (Tillie) Heesch Engel, was born on February 19, 1945, in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He attended school in Avoca. After leaving school “in a hurry”, he started farming for Sparky and Jackie Larsen. He then did numerous other jobs until he retired from Avoca Redi-Mix.

Larry married the love of his life, Cheryl Schutzenhofer, on December 12, 1968. Larry lived life to the fullest. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, travelling, camping, listening to music and especially partying with family and his many friends. He always captured everyone’s attention with his stories and jokes. He knew how to make everyone laugh. Later in his years he enjoyed owning old cars and belonging to the Pott County Rod Shop in Neola, Ia.

Larry was greeted into Heaven on Saturday, December 4, 2021, by his parents, his sister (Judy McLaughlin), brothers-in-law (Jerry Schutzenhofer and Roger Wulff), sister-in-law (Mary Ann Wulff), his in-laws (Alex and Betty Schutzenhofer) and many good friends. He leaves his wife Cheryl of 53 years, his daughter Sheila (Ron) Zornes, his son Doug (Julie) Engel all of Avoca, IA. 5 Grandchildren – Stephanie (Neil) Poldberg, Dean Zornes, Dylan Zornes, Tayler (Josh) Engel, Dustin (Trenna) Engel. 6 great-grandkids. His sisters Jackie (Dwayne) Larsen; Kristi (Kent) Beebe; brother in laws Ronnie (Kathy) Schutzenhofer, Bob Schutzenhofer, David Schutzenhofer, and Alex (Donna) Schutzenhofer; sister-in-law Tina Venturo, many special nieces and nephews and many great friends.
