Edward Leroy Thompson

Edward Leroy Thompson, son of Alvan Dellitt Thompson and Inez Mae Thompson Hays, was

born December 18, 1935, in Mount Ayr. He graduated from New Virginia Community School in

1954. On May 17, 1957, Ed married Anna Kay Sanderson at Osceola Methodist Church.

 

Ed worked as a farm hand, then at a service station, and for the Osceola Police Department.

In 1964, he started working for Hawkeye Lumber Company in Osceola as a bookkeeper, and

transferred to Wilton Junction as a manager until 1971. Ed and his family moved to Winterset

where he ran Thompson Standard until 1983. In 1986, he started Thompson Furniture in

Osceola. He moved the business to Creston in 1991 and operated the business until his death.

Ed was a member of Crest Baptist Church.

 

Ed is survived by his wife Anna, daughter Myrna Murphy, Meriden Kansas, daughter Lurae

Zavalla, Johnston Iowa, son Eric Thompson, Brunswick Georgia. He also survived by seven

grandchildren: Adam Murphy, Christina Murphy, Dustin Thompson, Heather Thompson, Hunter

Thompson, Kourtney Thompson, Ava Zavalla. He is also survived by four great grandchildren.

Ed was preceded in death by parents and his brother.

 

A celebration of life will be held Thursday, December 30th at Crest Baptist Church, 1211 N

Popular, Creston Iowa at 5 pm.
