Larry Bert Fetters

Larry Bert Fetters was the youngest son of Robert “Bob” Fetters and Violet Hickman.  He was born in Indianola, Iowa on May 21, 1946.  Larry attended 7th Day Adventist Oak Park Academy, later joined the U.S. Army and served two tours in Vietnam.

Larry was united in marriage to Jennifer Ann Willett on April 26, 1969.  Aside from a few short stents in Florida and New Mexico, Larry and Jennifer called central Iowa their home.  Together they raised five beautiful children.

Larry was an over-the-road truck driver for 50 years and became known to many as “Detroit Fever”.  His career began with a local mail route, transitioned to mid-west grain and steel deliveries, and concluded pulling campers to the west coast.  While Larry dabbled in all genres, it was the time he spent delivering LTL flatbed freight from coast-to-coast that cemented every mile-marker and landmark into his memory.

Larry absolutely loved the impending holiday season, as it was guaranteed time to spend with family and give gifts.  Gifts from Larry always came with a little extra thought and were a true sentiment to his personality.  In the “off-season” Larry enjoyed spending time at home with his wife, Jennifer, and watching videos on his “device”.

Larry B. Fetters departed on Monday, October 19, 2020 – the first day of recordable snowfall – a seasonal transition that Larry dreaded each year.  Larry passed peacefully with the love and support of his family; he was 74.

Larry is survived by his wife, Jennifer, children Christina (Randy) Werner, Julie Fetters, David “Charlie” Fetters, Brian (Shawna) Fetters, Nathan (Meredith) Fetters and many grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

The family would like to express a special thanks to the Mary Lanning ICU for their dedication and compassion.
