Evelyn Edna Sterner

Visitation for Evelyn Edna Sterner, 91, of Tipton, Iowa will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2020 from 2 - 3 PM at the United Church of Christ in Tipton with a Memorial Service following at 3:00 PM.  Inurnment will follow the Memorial Service at the Masonic Cemetery in Tipton.

Mrs. Sterner died on October 10, 2020 surrounded by her family at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.  

She was born on September 6, 1929, at home in Tipton, Iowa, the daughter of Walter and Clara (Stolte) Moeller.  She graduated from Tipton High School.  She married Martin Young on November 30, 1946.  Following Martin’s death, she married Dale Sterner on January 8, 1972.  

Mrs. Sterner worked at Family Food in Tipton and her and her husband moved to Minnesota and ran Ev and Dale Resort for eighteen years.  Following Dale’s death, she moved back to Tipton and did a lot of volunteer work for Cedar County Nurses’ Association.  She was very proud of her family and enjoyed spending time with them.  

Mrs. Sterner is survived by four sons, Dave (Faye) Young, Mike (Rhonda) Young, Lee Sterner, and Steve Sterner all of Tipton; four daughters, Laurie Smith  and friend Russ Pederson of Benedict, MN, Shelly Sterner of Moline, IL, Stephanie Herington of Davenport, and Shawn Sterner of Iowa City; thirty-one grandchildren; fifty-eight great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; sister, Neva (Lynn) Phelps of Tipton; and brothers Alvin (Monte) Moeller of Marion and Wally (Pat) Moeller of Tipton.

She is preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Martin James Young; second husband, Dale Sterner; two sons, Jerry and Tim Young; two daughters, Cindy Schnede and Susan Sterner; grandson, Jamie Schnede; son-in-law, Gary Smith; brother, Raymond Moeller; and sisters, Bernice Schlueter, Helen Sissel, and Luella Phillips.
