Dorothy Berneice Hoeness (Stine)

 

Dorothy Berneice Hoeness (Stine), 86, of Winterset, passed away on Friday October 9th, 2020 at the Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset.

 

Per Dorothy’s request, there will be no funeral. The family is holding a Celebration of Life on Sunday, November 29th from 1-4pm at the Madison County Historical Complex. Interment will take place at Panther Creek Church of the Brethren Cemetery in Dallas County at a later date.

 

Dorothy was born in Dallas County to Lester and Berneice (Judy) Hermon Stine on June 29th, 1934.  She married Dean Hoeness on August 14th, 1953 in Reno, Nevada. She worked in the healthcare field for over 30 years, first starting at Madison County Memorial Hospital and retiring after spending over 20 years at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.  When not working or raising the family, Dorothy was an avid bowler, lover of traveling and reader of many books. In retirement, she volunteered at Madison County Historical Complex and Madison County Health Care Systems.

 

Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband (Dean), her parents, a sister, and a brother & sister in infancy.   

 

Dorothy is survived by her children: Dana Hoeness of Winterset, Deena Hoeness of Winterset, and Darin (Lucia) Hoeness of Des Moines. One sister Dixie Mayfield of Grapeland, Texas. Seven grandchildren: Cody McDonald, Jared (Tara) McDonald, Mariah (Chris) Roberts, Riley McDonald, Kailee (Zach) Nihart, Reed (Madison) Hoeness, and Cole Hoeness. Nine great-grandchildren: Jaden & Peyton McDonald, Sawyer & Charla McDonald, Harper, Henry, & Halle Roberts, and Zoe & Lane Nihart.

 

Memorials may be directed to Deena Hoeness (717 N 6th Ave. Circle Winterset, IA 50273) for the family for a later designation. The family of Dorothy wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Heather Back and all the staff at Madison County Healthcare Systems. Also, thanks to everyone at EveryStep Hospice.
