Dennis Hollingsworth

Holly and I were carpenters together on the Railroad in Clinton, Iowa...he was a giant of a guy that could not have been more gentle... easy going guy... Holly used to talk up one of his favorite rock groups called Pat Travers... He liked the song Crash and Burn.... I heard that song on the radio and made me think of him.... I searched his name and was pretty bummed... He was a really mellow easy going guy even under pressure... Strait shooter.... they just don't come any better than Holly.... wish I could be as cool as " Holly "... I am proud to call him my friend....

Love you Holly!

We knew Dennis as "Holly Bear" because he was a big man with an even bigger heart and laugh. We knew Holly for many years when we lived in and around the Iowa City area. We attended many rock and roll concerts together over the years. We were also roommates for 2 years in West Branch, IA. We only had wood heat and no one wanted to be the first home because that person was to stoke the wood stove to warm up the house. Holly never was the first home. We soon learned his trick. Holly would stop at a bar off the I-80 exit and discreetly park in back so he didn't have to get the fire going. Smart and we loved him anyway! We last saw Holly last fall and he was his usual jovial and positive self. Our last conversation was a month ago when he was hospitalized and again, Holly was in good spirits. Our lives are better for having known this kind and gentle man. Thank you for enriching our lives, "Holly Bear"!!
