Douglas Dale Dickman was born on October 7, 1939 the son of Edward and Lucy (Dull) Dickman on a farm in Frankville Township.  He was baptized and confirmed at Washington Prairie Lutheran Church.  Doug attended Bakke Country School and graduated from Decorah High School In 1958.  In 1961 he married Ellen Bigler who he met in high school, they were married for 59 years and enjoyed life in the country.  They bought a home on 80 acres one mile from the farm where he spent his childhood.  Doug did a variety of different jobs including hauling freight coast to coast.  While working for Holland Brothers Construction he transported heavy equipment in the summer months and did welding repairs in the off season. He also fabricated special needs tools/equipment for Holland Brothers.

Doug loved his gardens and growing his own food.  He loved sharing his fruits and veggies with friends, neighbors and anyone in need.  He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.  In the later years he mostly pursued deer and turkeys.  He loved kids and was always eager to offer a helping hand, if you needed a ride or help in any way.  He was quick with a joke so you needed to be on your toes when he was around.  He had a big smile and contagious laugh.

Doug is survived by his wife Ellen.  Son, Dan (Sharon) Dickman of Minot, ND & daughter, Stacey (Paul) Kairu of Chaska, MN.  Grandchildren:  Jamie (Judith) Dickman of Minot, ND, Nicole (Dickman) Trottier of Great Falls, MT, Leah Dickman of Minot, ND and Natalie Kairu of Chaska, MN.  Great grandchildren:  Joseph, James, Judah and John.  Sister-in-law Darlene Dickman.
