Chuck (Charles) P. Downs

I had the honor of mentoring with Chuck in the 1980s at the Automotive Training Center, Exton. PA as he was my machine shop instructor and taught engine rebuilding like a pro. An excellent teacher, top machine shop instructor, Vietnam veteran, Purple Heart, patriot, warrior, karate black belt, gifted artist....a rare combination of skills and talent very rarely found in a single man. After graduating ATC in the mid 1980s I went into wheel service equipment product development and met back up with Chuck periodically to discuss the industry while he was in a similar capacity working with Kwik-way, McCourt Industries and Launch Tech. I always enjoyed his intelligent transparency and frank conversations. Chuck always gave me a boost and was a great sounding board. God you just received a great man. I’m sure there are a lot of people looking forward to seeing him again. Life is short on earth but everlasting life is God’s greatest gift.

Met Chuck during my years at KW. Did a lot of trade shows around the country with him, had a lot of great times and a bunch of fun. He has always been a good friend for sure. He will be surely missed. Karen, thank you for the phone call and call if I can do anything for you during these times.

Karen and Charlie, So sorry for your loss. Karen, I met Chuck in the early 1980’s when he was my machine shop instructor at ATC in Exton, PA. You should know that Chuck played a large part in my early automotive career. His influence helped form my career. Chuck also went out of his way to get me involve with Kwik-Way mfg. and you should know that will never be forgotten. I know we did not stay in touch when I moved away but it still doesn’t change my appreciation for Chuck. I’m proud that I knew Chuck and could call him a friend. RIP my friend. God Bless -Bob Peltz

Karen and Charlie, I taught with Chuck at ATC and heard the news from a former student there that both Chuck and I taught (Dave Scribner). Dave and I stay in touch and I can tell you that he thought the world of Chuck, as did I. I feel certain you both will see him again in heaven, and I hope that comforts you in this time of unhappiness - as my wife, Carol said when her sister passed away, "It's NOT goodbye - It's just "see you later".

Dear Karen and family, I was so sorry to hear of Chuck's passing. I have been retired and living in FL for many years now, so I am sorry this is late. I was just reading some items on Phil Wahl and came across Chuck's obituary, or I would still not have known. Please accept my sincerest thoughts and prayers, and be comforted in God's grace, and the knowledge that Chuck is safe in God's Holy Keeping, now and forever, and that he is waiting to see you all again. Take good care always... Mike Larcombe, SHHS class of 1966
