June Violet McCoy

June Violet (Grigsby) McCoy, 84, of Cedar Rapids, IA passed away peacefully at home on July 16, 2020, surrounded by her loving family, after a brief battle with cancer.

She was born to Charles Albert Grigsby and Violet Louise (Woolf) Grigsby, on April 6, 1936 in Columbus, OH. June graduated from Central High School (Columbus) in June 1953 and attended Apostolic Bible Institute in St Paul MN after high school.

She married James Orville McCoy in the summer of 1954 in Columbus, OH. In early 1958 they moved to Des Moines IA. A few years later - in 1965 - they moved to Cedar Rapids IA where they settled to raise their family and pastor the First Pentecostal Church.

She is survived by her husband Rev. James O. McCoy, one brother Harold (Merry) Grigsby of Kokomo IN, and four children: Dennis (Robbin) McCoy of Jackson TN, Rebecca (Richard) Wearmouth of Independence IA, Everett (Rhonda) McCoy of Cedar Rapids IA, and Esther (Brian) Henry of Daniels WV. She was blessed with 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, all surviving. She was preceded in death by her parents.

June was a very giving, kind-hearted and loving Christian woman who lived her faith to the fullest. She supported her husband and her family, and anyone else who needed her. Besides being a full-time pastor’s wife, she and her husband travelled extensively all over the United States and even overseas to visit their children living abroad. She retired from Rockwell International and took her retirement years to devote her entire life to others, just as she always did. She and Jim retired from pastoring in February 2002 after 55 years of ministry to the First Pentecostal Church. Over the last several years she continued to enjoy spending time with her family and friends and especially loved large gatherings filled with food, laughter and games.

She truly lived life to the fullest and with a servant’s heart. Most recently, she managed The Churches of Marion Food Pantry, loving every minute! She resigned only 4 months before her passing, knowing the battle she would be facing.

June’s Memorial Service will be held at River of Life, 3801 Blairs Ferry Rd, Cedar Rapids IA 52402 on Thursday, July 23, at 10:00 am.

In honor of her life and love for color, she would appreciate everyone wearing colors to celebrate her life. (June hated black!)

In lieu of flowers we request donations be made to the Churches of Marion Food Pantry. The family has set up a donation center via Paypal, and monetary donations to the food pantry can be made to the June McCoy Memorial Pantry Fund here: https://www.paypal.com/pools/c/8qWYgeh4VS
