We are saddened to announce the passing of Arthur ”Happy” Alan Gilmour Jr., on July 3rd, 2020 surrounded by family.
Arthur lived in Bondurant, Iowa since 2006, where he moved from Camarillo, California, to be close to family.

Arthur was pre-deceased in 2018 by his wife Carla Gilmour, who was the love of his life. Remaining behind to mourn his loss are Stepdaughter Becky Flemmens and her husband Terry, who took care of him during his trials of the past few years, and Stepdaughter Kim Campbell (Chris). He is also mourned by his sisters Hope Palmquist and Linda Johnson (Eric).

Art had several grandchildren who also thought of him as their dear grandfather, Marissa, Andrew, Jesse, Kylie, Emily, Tyler, and Josh. Kylie and Tyler succumbed to Cystic Fibrosis, but he loved them dearly. Also, a niece, who Art helped raise and mentor, Heather (Tom) Brittingham and her daughter, Bethany, who held a special place in his heart. Art was born in Homestead, Pennsylvania on November 4th, 1945, the son of a preacher, Arthur Alan Gilmour Sr, and Edith. 

After high school, he left the nest and went to make a living in California. He became a psychiatric technician for the State of California, retiring after 40 years of service. Art was heavily involved in the Loyal Order of the Moose, in which he helped start a Moose Lodge in Camarillo, CA. Art also help reopen the Capital City (IA) Moose Lodge at its’ current location, in Des Moines, IA. Art was awarded the Pilgrim Degree of service, the highest degree of service in the Loyal Order of Moose. Art loved preforming in front of Moose members during Karaoke. He is especially known for his rendition of Lou Armstrong’s “It’s a Wonderful World” and other hit songs. 

His family would like to express our appreciation of the heartfelt condolences since his passing. The past few years have been hard, but we know he is in a better place, free of pain. 

A memorial service will be held, a date will be determined by the family and announced via family member Facebook accounts.
