Pamela Joann Sanderson

Pamela Joann Sanderson, 59, of Decorah died on January 1, 2020, at her home. Pam was born in Maquoketa, Iowa, on December 1, 1960, to Jerome and Beverly Sanderson. At age four, after her father’s death, Pam moved to Decorah with her mother and two sisters. She attended Decorah Public Schools.

Pam worked at Rockwell Collins, Luther College, The Depot Outlet and many restaurants in Decorah. Her favorite job was serving coffee and breakfast, always with a smile, to her beloved customers at Café Deluxe. Physical fitness was important to Pam and power walking was her exercise of choice. Known as “Power Arms” and “The Woman Who Walks”, it was unlikely anyone could catch up with her, and if they did, probably couldn’t keep up for long. Unknown to many, Pam had an innate talent for creating precise, abstract, geometric drawings and whimsical calligraphy. Pam loved owning her little house on Oak Street and took great pride in her landscaping. She shared her home with her cherished son, Jerome, and their dogs, Keira and Killian.

Pamela is survived by her son, Jerome Wayne Sanderson of Decorah, grandson, Mason David Sanderson of Maynard, mother, Beverly Virginia Berg of Davenport, sisters, Val Sanderson Tindall of Lanesboro, Jeralyn (Bobby) Gunderson of Postville, and Barbara Berg of Davenport. She is also survived by stepsisters Jo Berg Iverson, Sherry Berg and Tammy Berg, all of Decorah, Cathy Boeker of Seattle, Washington and Cindy Berg of San Juan, Puerto Rico. She was preceded in death by her father, Jerome Kyle Sanderson, and stepbrother, Steven A. Berg.

Pam was thankful to the many friends who loved and assisted her through her many years of living with breast cancer. Her friend, Dan Marks, was there at the very end of her life, sharing in the round-the-clock care. Pam’s family extends a gracious thank you to everyone who provided emotional and financial support to Pam.
