Deanna Schutz

Deanna Schutz was born December 11, 1942 to Marian and Clara Kain of Swan, Iowa. She has four siblings, Marvin Kain, Raymond Kain, Louise Brown and Larry Kain.  Deanna graduated from Swan High School in 1960 and married Eugene Keeney October 5, 1962.  They had three children, Karla, Terry and Douglas.  They farmed and lived in Ackworth, Iowa until Eugene passed away September 1968.  She was a young widow with three small children under 5 years old. She then moved her family to Macksburg, Iowa to be close to her folks who had a small-town grocery store in Macksburg.  She met and married Don Schutz the summer of 1969, who adopted her three children.  They lived on a farm outside of Macksburg.  She was a stay at home mom.  She was very active with the kids and sports. After they divorced, she went to work to support her family, retail mostly.  After the kids graduated high school she moved to Winterset, Iowa.  She was always so proud of her kids.  She loved her family.  Deanna was blessed with six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.  As the great-grand kids grew she loved to go watch them play in sport events: soccer, football, basketball, baseball, and softball.  She said it was the highlight of her day.  Deanna attended Redeemer Church with son, Terry, in Winterset.

She is survived by her children, Karla (Michael) Worrall, Terry Schutz and Doug (Lisa) Schutz.  Six grandchildren, Ben (Amanda) Madren, Amanda Madren, Josh (Dani) McKinney, Curtis (Shelby) Worrall, Nichole Schutz and Harley Schutz.  Seven great-grandchildren, Wesley, Chloe, Peyton, Austin, Aubri, Ryan and Max.  Siblings, Louise Brown and Larry (Florence) Kain.

She is preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Raymond and Marvin.

Deanna suffered a stroke October 25,2019 that affected her speech and right side.  She went to Mercy Hospital in Des Moines then on to Mercy Rehabilitation Hospital in Clive for three weeks.  She then went to Community Care Center in Stuart for skilled rehab on November 22, 2019.  Deanna had heart and lung disease and was on oxygen at this time.  She was rushed to Mercy Hospital three times in a month with breathing problems and admitted into ICU two times. During the last hospital stay she learned she now had stage five renal disease and the next step would be dialysis.  At this point she talked with her kids and made the decision she was tired and ready to go into hospice.  Deanna went to Kavanagh House in Des Moines on December 30, 2019 where she passed away January 16, 2020.
