Edwin Glenn Matthes
Edwin “Ed” Glenn Matthes, 93, a longtime resident of Riverside, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 17, 2020 at his home. A graveside service will be held at a later date at Memory Gardens, Iowa City, Iowa.
Edwin was born on December 8, 1926 in Iowa City. He served in the Army in WWII and was a longtime member of the Iowa City Eagles Club. Ed worked as a cement finisher for many years and later at Kalona Elementary School for 12 years. He lived life with compassion for family and friends and will be missed dearly.
Survivors include his son, Scott Matthes; four step children, George Gerot; James Gerot; Deb Engel and Kay Thomann; nephew, Ronnie Matthes; and nieces, Sandy Hutchcroft and Cathy Wray.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Agnes Matthes; wife, Alice; and his sister, Lorna King.
