Marilyn Rae Stapp

Marilyn Rae (Carey) Stapp, 86, passed away peacefully December 27, 2020 at Colonial Manor in Columbus Junction after a brief illness.  Per her wishes, Marilyn was cremated.  A service will be held at a later date.

She was born April 7th, 1934 in New Boston, IL to Rex and Christina (Gauger) Carey.  
In her early years, the family moved to Columbus Junction, Iowa. She married Robert Eugene Stapp in 1951, and raised 5 daughters.  She spent half of her life as a grandmother, cooking amazing meals and treats, especially known for her chocolate pies, going to all the children's events, and hosting family time on the farm.  

In addition to being known as "Grandma Bouke", she will be remembered for her love of horses.  Along with her husband, they bred, trained and raced standardbred horses throughout the midwest each summer.  She volunteered with Trees Forever.  She was an avid reader of books and spent many years volunteering at the Columbus Junction Public Library.  She also loved George Strait, owning each of his albums, as his music became the soundtrack of any time spent with her.  

Marilyn is survived by her daughters Christy (Mark) Rueckert of Columbus Junction, Bonnie (Tom) Wiele of Nichols, IA, Sherri (Jerry) O'Rourke of Tipton, IA, Joni Lindsday of Riverside, IA and Julie (Alan) Edmondson of Columbus Junction. Her Grandchildren Bob O'Donnell (Mary Cox), Mandi (Troy) Wulf, Matt (Kelli) Rueckert, Dan (Samantha) O'Donnell, Jeff (Tasha) Wiele, Billy (Amy) Lindsay, Lindsay Rueckert, Mick (Tiffany) Wiele, Kelly (Nate) Break, Shelley (Jerry) Vasquez, and Ashlee (Avery Meyers) Wiele;   21 great grandchildren a sister Shirley (Ray) Hendrickson and sister in law Barbara High, brother in laws Bob Matthews,  Sam (Karen) Stapp, Larry (Peggy) Stapp, sister in laws Jeanette Stapp, Barbara (Joe) Harbison), Judy Ross, Linda Underwood.

She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Stapp, her granddaughter Molly Edmondson, her parents Rex and Tina Carey, a sister Beverly Thomas and brother Bob Carey, sister in laws Mamie (Doyle) Spears, Darlene (Richard) Johnson, Joan Matthews, Janet Culbertson and brother in laws Everett Stapp, Mick Stapp, Kirk Stapp and Dennis Underwood.

Memorials may be directed to the Stapp family for a memorial of their choice.
