Jerry was born in Eddyville, IA August 24, 1936. He graduated from Eddyville High School 1955. Jerry went to William Penn University, for a short time, in order to play professional baseball. He was unable to play professional ball, so he switched to Trade School in Kansas City, MO for auto body. Jerry worked as a cab driver in Ottumwa, IA, then moved to Cedar Rapids, IA where he began in auto body, then moved back to Ottumwa and worked at Ottumwa water works, then came back to Cedar Rapids where he started his career in meat packing. He began at Wilson Foods meat packing plant and worked his way to USDA inspector. Jerry attended school in Texas multiple times to increase his standing as USDA inspector. After Wilson Foods closed, Jerry became inspector at the same location under Farmstead Foods. When that location closed, he traveled to Ottumwa, IA every week to continue working at Farmstead Foods. Jerry retired from USDA Inspector after spending his last years of service traveling throughout the Amana colonies and North Liberty, IA. After retirement, he drove limousine for his brother-in-law Rick Kruger at Diamond Limousine until 2016.

Jerry married in 1959, divorced in 1975 and remarried in1980.

Jerry loved all his family and was very devoted to doing all that he was able to do to be part of their lives. He was a very caring and kind man that did not always show his silly side, but when he did, his sense of humor and laugh was infectious. Jerry loved watching college ball on television (Hawkeye fan), and in his younger years was known to have multiple games going at a time so as not to miss any of them. Jerry loved horses and had a few for a while. He loved his dogs, that he called his babies. He loved being on his riding mower, gardening and canning. He especially loved sharing his canned salsa.

Jerry made friends everywhere he went. He was a fun and social guy that would also do anything to make his friends happy.

Jerry will be greatly missed by so many people. He made such an impact on all!
