Alan D. Growden

Alan, D. Growden, 75, of Hazleton, passed away on Saturday, April 11, 2020. He was surrounded by his loving family. A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date.

Alan, who his family and friends called Skip, was born on June 16, 1944 in Redwing, Minnesota. He was the son of Dean and Margaret (Campbell) Growden.  Skip proudly served in the United States Navy from 1963-1967 on the U.S.S. Calvert. He was united in marriage to his loving wife Pauline “Paula” Smith on April 23, 1972 in Florida. He and Paula later moved back to Iowa, where Skip worked for the Donaldson Corporation for 25 years. He later found employment with ADM, where he retired.

Skip loved spending time with his wife, children, and six grandchildren. He also enjoyed being with friends, watching football, (especially the Minnesota Vikings and the Iowa Hawkeyes), he also loved reading, and watching westerns on TV. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather, and took tremendous pride in his family. He will be remembered most for his sense of humor, generosity, and love of making others around him feel welcome and happy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Karen, and son, Lance Growden.

Left to cherish Skip’s memories are his wife, Paula of Hazleton; children, John Growden of Oelwein, and Brook (Growden) Carey of Independence, grandchildren, Jaxon, Paityn, Maizie, and Tessa Growden, and Claire, and Adam Carey, as well as his two brothers Larry and Randy Growden of Rochester, Minnesota. His absence will be felt deeply, and his family’s memories of him will be cherished forever.
