Dean Logsdon

Dean "Deano" Logsdon died unexpectedly on October 11, 2019, his 64th birthday.  He had fainted while on the "Boys of Fall" wilderness canoe trip on Missouri's Current River, and went home a couple of days early, even though he felt normal.  He cleaned gear, ran errands, made his famous jalapeño poppers and then sat down at his computer a few minutes after unloading his canoe with his stepson, Sam. He passed away shortly after.

Deano was known for his intelligence and ability to provide useful advice, “urban” legends, his love for Chris and his family and friends, a passion for live music, knowledge of beer, gardening, BBQ and cooking, sharing a round of golf, his ready laugh, and for taking on projects.  He ran the family insurance firm for many years before taking a sales position at Regal Plastics. He liked to do things for his family and friends, whether cooking, making drinks, or finding other ways to help.

He and Chris grew acquainted through a mutual admiration for Bob Dorr and the Blue Band. They enjoyed 25 years of adventures including camping, canoeing, biking and countless live music events.  Dean is survived by Chris, as well as stepchildren Annie, Sam and Jeff Harmeyer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Darrel and Mildred “Millie” Logsdon, and sister, Connie Gould.

An evening of food and drink to remember Dean is scheduled for Friday, October 25, 5:00 pm at the Saylorville Event Center, located at 3081 NW Prairie Lane, Des Moines, IA.  Please consider carpooling as parking is somewhat limited. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial gift to Des Moines Bike Collective, ARL of Iowa, First Tee of Iowa or charity of your choice. You may also consider a gift to the family to defray the costs associated with his passing.

There will a short service that will include a chance for friends and family to share short stories and memories of Deano. If you wish to contribute, please email Chris at chris.hlogsdon@gmail.com
