Burton Tracy

Burton Tracy of the Rehabilitation Center of Belmond, formerly of Clarion, passed away on October 10, 2019.

Burton was born December 2, 1929, to Guy and Mildred [Fisher] Tracy in Nashua, Iowa, just a few weeks after the stock market crash.  He attended country school and high school in Nashua. After high school, he ran an upholstery shop.

He married Dolores Patterson at the Little Brown Church in Nashua on December 2, 1950, his 21st birthday. To this union, five children were born.

Burton worked on the Sherman Buffalo Farm in Nora Springs before taking courses and completing his Certified Public Accounting licensure. He worked for Frank Enbusk and Co. in Mason City. A self-made man, he opened his own accounting business, Burton E. Tracy & Co., P.C., in Clarion in 1964. He was a Certified Public Accountant for over 50 years and specialized in auditing public school and health care systems throughout Iowa.

Burton was active in the National Guard from 1949 to 1964.

Burton and his family enjoyed many fun local vacations, which always included fishing, camping, and meeting new people.

Those left to cherish his memory include Dolores (Pat), his wife for nearly 69 years; his children Terry Allen-Burns of Clear Lake, Renae [Steve] Mericle of Manly, Alan [Karen Roberts] Tracy of Colleyville, TX, Jay Tracy of Northwood, and Greg Tracy of Ankeny. Grandchildren: Shelby [the Reverend Stephen] Benitz of Clear Lake, Dan [Sara] Allen of Clear Lake; Cher [Layne] Brown of Ankeny, Tracy [Steve] Hilpipre of Clarion, Brooke [David] Benton of Evanston, Wyoming.  Great grandchildren: Emily Benitz; Hudson and Hensley Allen; Hunter, Lauren, and Taylor Brown; Abbeni Mericle, Hailey Winter; and Luke Benton. Great-great grandchild: Ravyn Umstead.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Bill, sister-in-law Marie, brother-in-law Ronnie, sons-in-law David Allen and Robert Burns.

An informal gathering is planned for 2 p.m. Sunday, November 3, 2019 at St. Johns Episcopal Church Parish Hall, 120 1st Ave NE, in Mason City.

The family suggests that, in lieu of flowers, remembrances in Burton’s name be directed to Gateway Hospice in Clarion, or to the Rehabilitation Center of Belmond.
