Doris White
Doris Alberta White, age 91, of Boone - formerly of Stratford, passed away peacefully Thursday morning, November 7, 2019, at Westhaven Community surrounded by her loving family.
She was born August 2, 1928, in Lehigh, Iowa, a daughter of Earl and Mollie(Daniels) McAnally. On November 21, 1947, Doris was united in marriage to the love of her life, Elmer William White.
Doris was a one-of-a-kind person who cared deeply for everyone she met and had an infectious smile that lit up the room. She was fortunate to make many dear friends in her lifetime several of which she would call family. Doris’s kind and caring nature made it hard not to love her immediately. She was a lover of all things chocolate – especially her beloved Hershey bars, an excellent baker – her brownies are famous, and a lifetime Lawrence Welk fan. In her spare time, Doris enjoyed reading the paper and making handwritten comments and notes as she read. Her family thoroughly enjoyed receiving her handwritten birthday cards especially since they often contained scraps of paper with notes about her day, what she ate, clippings she wanted you to see, or pearls of wisdom. Most importantly, Doris was infamous for her long hugs. She always wanted those around her to feel loved.
Doris was a woman of faith. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Stratford for many years and loved all of her church family. She was active in the Women’s Missionary Society.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one sister, and four brothers.
Doris is survived by her three children Carolyn (Doug) Genschmer, Lynn (Joyce) White, and Elaine (Kelcy) Pearson; her four grandchildren Kim (Alvaro) Vital Brasil, Heather Genschmer, Erin (Nick) Blasberg, and Garrett Pearson; her seven great-grandchildren Isabella, Felipe, Nicolas, Myles, Andrew, Allison, and Ashley; and her beloved cat Mollie.
In lieu of a funeral service according to her wishes, the family would like to invite you to attend a Celebration of Life on Saturday, November 16, 2019, at Westhaven Community Chapel from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM – 112 West 4th Street, Boone, Iowa. A private family burial service will take place immediately after the celebration.
