John Joseph Vovos
Dear Linda & Family -- I am so sorry to hear of John's passing. I always enjoyed golfing with both of you at Wahkonsa. John was a great guy. I hope wonderful memories will help to ease your sorrow. Thoughts and prayers are with you.
I am sorry to see that John "Coach" Vovos died. He was my wrestling coach back in the early '60s in Portage, WI. He was an inspiring guy. I recall once at practice I had hold of another wrestler's leg and was standing there like a dummy. Coach Vovos hollered, "That's not your grandmother - take him down!" My condolences to his family and friends. Rest in peace, Coach.
I’ve lost one of my best friends in life. Although there was around a 20 year difference in our ages, it never mattered a bit. The last few years, although both of us had heath issues, and didn’t get together as often, we’d speak on the phone, and I always loved that. The most competitive guy I ever knew. Excelled at most everything. I completely looked up to him. I’ll miss you buddy, and see you on the other side.
A great teacher and coach. Jim Bryan Portage Class of 1966
I was so sorry to hear of John’s passing. My condolences to Linda and the rest of the family. I only got to know John in his later years - through golf of course. He was a really good man. I consider myself lucky to have known him. I’ll miss him at our Saturday morning golf game. From now on, whenever I step on the first tee at Glynn’s Creek I’ll think of John. Rest In Peace friend.
John was “my John’s” wrestling coach for four years at Portage High Scool in the late sixties. Thoughts and prayers are with your family.
Linda and Family, I am saddened to hear of John's passing. You have my sincere condolences.
Linda and family, I am sorry to hear the news of John’s passing. I knew John as “ Coach Vovos”. He was a good man, involved with kids and sports while in Portage. We had enormous respect for him. Unne6e My sincere sympathies to your family Janice McMahon Cooney
My sincere condolences to the family. John was a great teacher, coach, and friend. He built Portage into a state powerhouse in wrestling. It was a privilege and honor to wrestle for him.
