Helen Omstead, 85, of Oskaloosa, Iowa, passed away on May 13, 2019 at Mahaska Health Partnership in Oskaloosa.

Helen Ladene Sweeten was born January 26, 1934 to Clyde G. and Katie E. (Burns) Sweeten in Bethany, Missouri. She lived in several cities following her husband’s grocery business including Lamoni, Leon, Corydon, Tulsa, Denver, and Cedar Falls. Helen later moved to Kansas City and eventually returned to Iowa, living in Oskaloosa where she resided for the rest of her life. She was a homemaker for several years and later worked at businesses including Keith’s Jack and Jill, The Egg Plant, Pamida, William Penn College, and Life Touch Photography. She was a longtime member of the First Assembly of God Church in Oskaloosa. She loved bowling and enjoyed visiting antique shops to collect teacups and saucers and angels. Helen dearly enjoyed family gatherings and celebrations and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Helen is survived by her daughters Roxanna (Bob Shafer) Crawford of Cedar Falls, IA, Dianna Haurum of Reinbeck, IA, LuAnn (Kevin) Utterback of Oskaloosa, IA, and Suzanna Omstead of Waterloo, IA; grandchildren Stacey (Russ) Crandall, Katie (Steven) Hacker, and Heather (Aaron Mangan) Haurum; great-grandchildren Kayden Kirton, Molly Crandall, and Charlie Crandall; and three siblings. She was preceded in death by her parents and eleven siblings. A Celebration of Life Service will be held for all who wish to attend to honor Helen on Friday, May 31st at 10:30 am at the First Assembly of God in Oskaloosa. Memorial donations may be made in honor of Helen to the First Assembly of God Church in Oskaloosa.
