Gary Linn Riley

Gary Linn Riley, age 68, passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2019, at Great River Medical Center in Burlington, IA surrounded by his loved ones. He was born in Mount Pleasant at Henry County Memorial Hospital on October 7, 1950 to Vergil L. Riley and Beulah Joan Riley. Gary married Norma Taylor in 1969, together they had three children Tate, Cherity and Jesiah. They later divorced. Over the years, he worked at Bluebird, Goodyear, and the Iowa Ammunition Plant. Coworkers fondly remember him by his sociable manner and his ever-present smile.

Gary loved to be outdoors; fishing, hunting, walking, working on projects, and spending time with his family. He also loved to build model cars and to go to the races. Early hobbies included tournament bow shooting and bowling. His favorite thing to watch on television was sports and Christian ministry programs. Gary’s unwavering faith in God was a pillar in his daily life and he loved to share his faith with those he loved. His family will dearly miss his playful personality and endless affection.

Gary is survived by his children; Tate Riley of Mount Pleasant, IA; Cherity (Todd) Wibben of Mount Pleasant, IA; and Jesiah (Hayley) Riley of New London, IA. Grandchildren; Brittney(Nicholas) Lerner of New London, IA; Haylee Boecker of New London, IA; Aleesha Riley of Frederick, Co; Ian and Paige Riley of Boulder, CO; Samantha Wibben of Mount Pleasant, IA; Fox and Fisher Riley of New London; IA. Great-grandchildren; Kinnick Lerner; Jeremey, Stella, and Madalynn Roff. Brother; Randy Riley of Burlington, IA; Vickie (Chuck) Ridgeway of Porterville, CA.

Gary was preceded in death by, his father, Vergil L. Riley; mother, Beulah Joan Nau Vasquez; stepfather, Victor Vasquez.
Per his wishes, Gary’s cremains will be buried beside his mother at Pleasant Point Cemetery in Mount Pleasant during a private family graveside service. Flowers and condolences can be sent to 1913 295th St. Mount Pleasant, IA 52641.
