Louise Ruth Yoder, 79, loving wife, mother and grandmother went to be with the Lord on March 20, 2019, to celebrate her birthday with Jesus!

Louise was born in Independence, IA Mar 20, 1940, daughter of Beryle Glenn & Mildred Louise Hopkins.  Louise graduated from Rowley High School in 1957. On Feb 1, 1958 she married Joseph J Yoder and then lived in Rowley where they raised their 5 children. While raising their children she worked at Rowley Elementary School-as a Teacher’s Aide. She also worked at Rowley Savings Bank and at Mark’s Locker. In 1987 she attended Kirkwood Community College where she earned her Associates degree as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA). After graduation she took a job at Allen Hospital working 15 years in her dream job working in the Psychiatric Program. After retirement she and Joe moved to Tulsa OK in 2005 to attended Rhema Bible College, both earned a 2-year degree in the HELPS Ministry. Wanting to be closer to family they moved back to Iowa in October 2008. Louise was a member of Waterloo Worship Center where she and Joe were active with the Golden Group as well as the Greeters Group. 

Louise is survived by her loving husband Joe of 61 years, children Cindy (Dave) Butler of LITH IL, Michele Yoder of Center point IA, Roger (Joletta) Yoder of Cedar Falls, IA, James Yoder of Arlington VA, John (Sheri) Yoder of Urbandale IA, 6 grandchildren Ian and Ashley Butler, Ryan and Allison Yoder, Emma and Jake Yoder and 3 Great grandchildren Riley, Aubrey and Charlie Butler. Siblings are William (Bunny) Hopkins, Susan (Andy) Bacon. Exchange student Denis Scholvien and her faithful corgi companion, Gina. 

She was preceded in death by her father B.G. (Pete) Hopkins, mother Mildred (Millie), brothers Floyd, Charles (Chuck), Cyrus (Cy), Delbert (Hoppy), Bruce, Step-mother Cora (Bolton) Hopkins and Sister-in-law Bonnie (Chuck) Hopkins.  

Louise’s legacy is her Love for Jesus and others. She depended on her devotional and prayer time with God to carry her through daily life. She loved finding treasures at thrift stores and garage sales often gifting her finds to loved ones. She was an avid supporter, encourager, spiritual advisor, prayer worrier, great listener, gift giver to her family. She enjoyed painting ceramics, repainting found treasures, refinishing wood furniture, she liked sparkly things and Butterflies. Family was her most prized treasure. Louise final gift of love was giving herself as an organ donor. 

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on May 13 at the Waterloo Worship Center at 10:00 am.

Louise’s wish is for memorials to be directed to Camp Courageous and Waterloo Worship Center.
