Hilda was born on the family farm in Lisco, Nebraska on December 7, 1928 to Peter and Mildred Hansen.  She was the oldest of eight children.  As a youngster she would help with chores and taking care of her siblings.  After graduating high school she worked as a waitress and met her future husband, Robert T.
