Dennis "Denny" Suntken

Dennis “Denny” Suntken, age 74,  passed away Thursday, July 4th at the Iowa Specialty Hospital in Belmond.

Denny was born April 15, 1945 to Onno J. and Ruth Suntken.  He was raised and went to school in Meservey, IA.  As a young man he moved to LaCrosse, WI and made a career of truck driving with a few different companies, going by the handle of “String Bean”.  He also lived in Tomah WI for a few years.

His interests included truck pulls, mud bogging, and horse shows.  After retirement he moved back to Meservey, IA  and enjoyed helping friends & family with farm & field work, tinkering in the garage, getting out the atlas to show all the places he had traveled in his semi and spoiling his pets with snuggles and treats.  He made frequent visits to the clinic in the last few years and was fondly known there as “The Candy Man” because he always had a piece of candy, including sugar free for those that needed it, to pass out to staff and other patients he met.  He loved making other people smile and laugh with his silly stories and corny jokes.

Denny is survived by his wife, Joni, and her daughters, Nicole, Crystal, Amber and their children; a daughter from a previous marriage, Sherry (Jeff) Taylor and his granddaughters Brittany Taylor and Becca Taylor.  He is further survived by his sisters Marlys (Dean) Pruisman and Audrey (Randy) Oreskovich and their families.   He was preceded in death by his parents, a step-father, Harold Smith, and a brother, Delbert Suntken.

We would like to thank the Iowa Specialty Clinic and Hospital -Belmond staff and hospice team for their kind and compassionate care to Denny and to Reverend Rodney Meester for visiting, praying and offering comfort to all of us.

According to Denny’s wishes, there will be no funeral service.
