Ray Dean Spiker

Ray Dean Spiker, 82, a resident of Homestead Assisted Living of Oskaloosa, died on January 11, 2019, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Ray had been a resident there for 5 years where he met many friends who became family to him, a place he called home. A celebration of Ray’s life will be held at a later date.

He married Connie Gartin in February of 1955 to this union they had 4 children, Pam Burlin of Chariton, Craig (Shari) Spiker of Chariton, Kelli (Douglas) Kline of Oskaloosa, Anthony (Gretchen) Spiker of Pella. They later divorced.

He later married Joyce Russell to that union he helped raise, Chuck, Steve, Mike (Debbie) Russell, Dave, Tracy (Dale) Carlson all of Illinois. And many others who he became a second father to. He is also survived by his only living brother Ellwyn Spiker of Pennsylvania; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and extended family members and friends.

Ray was born on January 17, 1936, in Lucas County, Iowa the son of Adirmal D. and Pauline L. (Boyd) Spiker. He worked for many years as a truck driver. Ray will be remembered for his joking nature and for making friends with everyone — no one was a stranger. He loved all types of racing and spending time with family and friends.

Memorial donations in Ray’s honor may be made to Mahaska Masonic Lodge #644 in Oskaloosa or to Homestead of Oskaloosa.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the staffs at DaVita Dialysis Center and Homestead of Oskaloosa for their kindnesses extended to Ray and the family.
