Isaac "Ike" Earl Campbell

Isaac “Ike” Earl Campbell, 71, of Grinnell died, with family at his side, on January 19, 2019 at University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City.  He passed away from complications of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease and Heart Disease. 

Isaac was born on August 11, 1947 in Monroe, Iowa, the son of Vesper Earl and Evelyn Mae (Garriott) Campbell.  He grew up and attended school in various small towns in Iowa.  He served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War.  He married Cheryl Lust and they later divorced.  On August 23, 1986, after years together, he married Betty Louise Whannel in Grinnell, Iowa.  Isaac was a career employee of Maytag retiring in 1999. 

He is survived by his wife, seven children and step children- Terri Kephart, Shirley Johnson (Stephen Loutsch), David Johnson, Anna Sharkey, Misty Campbell, Mindy Bower, Crystal Reardon (Channcey), 19 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and sisters- Rose Norgart and Peggy Campbell.  He was preceded in death by his parents and son-in-law Joe Bower. 

Isaac was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother.  His family meant the world to him.  He always had a twinkle in his eye and never complained despite the various health problems he faced over the years.  He will be remembered for his love, perseverance and grit. 

Inurnment with a grave side service with military honors will be in the spring on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell. Iowa.   A celebration of life will follow at the Grinnell Eagles Club.

The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to the entire staff of the University of Iowa Hospital Medical Intensive Care Unit and Palliative Care Unit as well as Hospice Compassus for their care and compassion.
