Rosalie Elaine Nelson

Rosalie Elaine (Stephens) Nelson, 81, passed away peacefully Dec. 6th, 2019 @ Israel Hospice House in Ames, with her children by her side. She was born Oct 24, 1938 in Mount Ayr, Iowa to Paul and Goldie (Matthews) Stephens,(5th of 7 children). She attended Ames schools through the ninth grade and then graduated from Radcliffe High School in 1957.

She married the late George (Skip) Nelson in July 1960.They had three children together and divorced in 1986.

Rosalie worked hard as a “stay at home” mom and her children loved having her at home. She loved attending her kid’s activities and was KNOWN to get her “Kazoo” out for many occasions. She was fun loving and a great cook.

After raising her children she worked at the Iowa Department of Transportation for 11 years and Mary Greeley Medical Center for 6 years as a transporter. She enjoyed working the early shift in some of the Hotels in the area and Rochester, MN, serving continental breakfasts.

In her free time she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and proudly supporting their activities. She loved watching Nascar races and dancing.

She will be greatly missed everyday by her son, Lee of Ankeny, her daughter Gina (Curt) Stoecker of Stratford and was reunited “in heaven” with her oldest daughter, Christy.

Also will be missed by her grandchildren, Jill (Ty) Adams (Maddux and Preslee) of Nevada, Kyle (Trina) Nelson of Nevada, Noelie Nicolas of France, Daniel(Lindsay) Bell of Ankeny, Janae Stoecker of Stratford and Preston Stoecker of Stratford.

We will have a Celebration of Life in the spring of 2020 to celebrate the love she brought to so many.
