Elizabeth (Kathy ) Schamel, 61, of Des Moines, IA, went to be with Jesus on December 19, 2019 after spending her final days surrounded by family.
Kathy was born and rasied in Scottsbluff, NE and graduated from Scottsbluff High School in 1976. In 2008 she moved to Des Moines to live near her daughter's growing family.
Kathy was born to John and Dorothy Alt on August 22, 1958. Kathy enjoyed growing up surrounded by her aunts, uncles and cousins. She had a special affections for dogs and cats and always loved collecting bears.
More the anything else she loved Jesus. She taught her family to love Jesus too. It was her faith in him that brought her through the many hard times she endured during her life.
Kathy is survived by her daughter, Heather Bartmess and Son-in-love Seth Bartmess, of Des Moines, and Grandsons Damian and Devin Bartmess of Des Moines, and Dekota Bartmess of Tampa, Fl , Granddaughters Desiree and Destiny Bartmess of Des Moines, Cousins Pam, Drina, Michael, Robert Niegisch of Casper, WY, Deb Niegisch of Torrington, WY, Gray Masters of Utah.
She was preceded in death by her father John Alt, her mother Dorothy Alt, her cousin, Tom Masters and numerous aunts and uncles.
