John H. McDowell, Sr., 76, of Manchester passed away on Monday, April 15, 2019 at his home surrounded by his loving family. A Celebration of Life service will be held on July 13, 2019 at 2 PM at Bailey’s Ford Park.
John Henry McDowell, Sr. was born on May 3, 1942 to Joseph and Ethel (Brown) McDowell in Iowa City, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Dora Meader on June 15, 1962 in Volga, Iowa. John was known as the “Maytag Repairman” around Colesburg. He enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, playing cards and visiting with friends and family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Dora; children, Jane (Steve) Powers) of Strawberry; Jody (Jerry) Boge of Manchester; Julie McDowell (a special friend Todd); Vickie (Kenny) Christen of Edgewood and John (Lynn) McDowell, Jr. of Edgewood; several grandchildren & great grandchildren; half-brother, Dale (Diane) Brown of Edgewood.
John was preceded in death by his parents; his step father, John Barehorn; and siblings, Martha Johnson, Pearl Bell, Ramona Larken, and Edgar McDowell.
