Thomas Grinter

After bravely battling cancer for almost a year, MSgt. (Ret) Thomas Charles Grinter, 75, died peacefully at University of Iowa Hospital on September 28, 2018 with his loving wife, Henrietta, by his side and Fr. Gregory administering last rites.

MSgt. (Ret) Grinter was born on September 22, 1943 in Tulsa, OK to Joe Grinter of Oklahoma City, OK and Clara Wermager Grinter of Tulsa, OK and graduated from Central High School in Tulsa, OK in 1961.  He joined the USMC in 1963 and was assigned to Camp Lejeune, NC and was honorably discharged in 1969. He enlisted in the USMCR in Ft. Worth, TX in 1978 serving twenty years
until retiring in 1998.  He owned and operated Grinter Automotive and worked for Rush Truck Center in  Dallas, TX.  He married Henrietta Borman in December 2008 and lived in Fairfield, IA for the remainder of his life.

MSgt. (Ret) Grinter was an avid drag racing fan, built and drove cars for many years. He enjoyed watching the races, automobile auctions, baseball, NCIS and FOX News.  

He is survived by his wife Henrietta, brother, Robert Grinter of Tulsa, OK, children Jeff Grinter of Tulsa, OK, Jon (Karla) Grinter of Frisco, TX and Lacey (Tyler) Lamm of Frisco, TX as well as his grandchildren Harris Grinter, Rory Grinter, Hunter Lamm, Hannah Lamm and Haisley Lamm all of Frisco, TX. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents.

As per his wishes, his body has been cremated. Visitation for family and friends will be held at 9:00 a.m., Friday, October 5 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Fairfield, IA. Funeral Mass will start at 10:30 a.m. with Father Nick Adam officiating with luncheon to follow.
