Lloydene "Deanie" Frances Smock

Lloydene "Deanie" Frances Smock passed in her sleep Tuesday, Sept 18, at her home in La Porte City.

She was born the youngest child of six to Lloyd & Maxine Stern on June 10, 1953, at Evansdale.  She attended school in La Porte City with the Class of 1971.

Deanie and Rick Deppe married in 1969 and to them were born two children.  Rick preceded Deanie in death in 1980 the result of a motorcycle accident.

On May 7, 1983, Deanie and Bret Smock were united in marriage at Vinton.  

In 1973, Deanie began employment at Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids.  She retired in 2008.  Since then she has worked at the La Porte City Bakery and Urb's Hardware.

Deanie was a woman of strong constitution and loyal to all who reciprocated.  She was a lover of animals, volunteering her time for the good of injured or orphaned animals.  She was a self-taught tatter and jewelry maker.  She served as a past Treasurer of ABATE of Iowa in support of her love for motorcycling.  

Her most rewarding role was that of wife, mother and grandmother. 

Deanie is survived by her husband of 35 years, Bret; son Ty (Brenda) Deppe; daughter Dionne (Mike) Emanuel, 5 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild with another due in May and a sister, Becky (Wayne) Weisbrod.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, her parents, brother Steve Stern and sisters Roxie Weisbrod, Barbara Fleck and Patricia Joyner. 

Her body has been cremated.  No services are planned at this time.

Memorials may be made to the family at 723 Commercial  St, La Porte City.
