Mary Jean Birkey, 84, of Barnum, Iowa, died Friday morning, October 19th, 2018 at Bickford Cottages in Fort Dodge, Iowa.  

 Funeral Services will be held Saturday, October 27, 2018 at 11:00 am at the Manson Mennonite Church in Manson, IA.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service.  

Mary is survived by her husband, Dale Birkey of Barnum, IA, three children, Barb Mack (Steve Johnson) of Estherville, IA, Karen Sempek (Terry) of Omaha, NE and Edward Birkey (Jennifer) of Barnum, IA; brother Jim Moline, Humboldt, IA and sister Norma Hoag, Fort Dodge, IA.  Mary was also blessed with 6 grandchildren, Brian Mack, Meghan Sempek, Michael Sempek, Max Birkey, Grace Birkey and Kate Birkey; 2 great-grandchildren Madison Mack and Kael Mack.  She is preceded in death by her sister Marguerite Fey and her parents.

Mary was born January 30, 1934 near Knierim, IA the daughter of E. Harold and Kathryn (Onnen) Moline.  She married Dale Birkey on July 24, 1959.  She attended Kahler School of Nursing, Rochester, MN, then worked as a Registered Nurse at the Fort Dodge hospital in various roles from 1959 until 1996 when she retired.  She also spent time as a nursing instructor for ICCC. She enjoyed spending time with family, camping trips, and spending winters in Arizona where she gained lifetime friendships. She loved sewing, quilting and reading a good book.  Mary was a member of the Mennonite Church in Manson, Iowa.
