Blanche Jones

Blanche “Louise” McChesney Jones, of Melrose Meadows Retirement Home, Iowa City, Iowa, passed away on October 24, 2018 at the Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha at the age of 97.

Louise was born in Packwood, Iowa on December 14, 1920 to the late Cassius McChesney and Leona “Vivian” McChesney.  Louise (“Sis”) was predececeased by her two brothers; Raymond “Doe” McChesney and Harold “Bud” McChesney.

She enjoyed telling stories about growing up in a musical household, and how the 3 young siblings would travel around the state of Iowa singing three part harmony at different events and even the State Fair.

Louise was predeceased by her loving husband of 62 years, Dr. Shuell H. Jones.  They married on October 10, 1942, not long after Shuell joined the U.S. Navy.  Both born and raised in Iowa, they eventually moved with their two children to Missouri, then Illinois, before settling in New Orleans, Louisiana for over 40 years.  They were members of Woodland Presbyterian Church in Algiers.  With hard work and determination, Louise became a successful and well respected realtor/ broker in New Orleans.  In this business, she made lifelong friendships with so many wonderful colleagues, as well as clients she assisted.  Louise loved her profession and was fortunate to steadily work until her retirement at 85 years of age.  With a real zest for life, Louise enjoyed music, dancing, singing, politics, and was an avid bridge player and loyal sports fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and New Orleans Saints.  Over the years she was involved in many community and charitable organizations such as PEO., Kiwanis Club,  Eastern Star, and Fleur de Lis Garden Club.  Louise was an adoring mother to her two children, and a true friend to many.  She is survived by her son Richard S. Jones (Patricia) from Cedar Rapids, Iowa and daughter Marcia J. Gillespie (Malcolm) from Huntsville, Alabama.

A special thanks to the caring staff at Melrose Meadows and we also wish to thank the Oldorf Hospice House for their compassion and care.

Per the family’s wishes no services will be scheduled.
