Samuel George Humble

Samuel George Humble, 80, of Luzerne passed away on Friday, March 2, 2018 of a sudden illness at the Belle Plaine Specialty Care in Belle Plaine.  A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, March 8, 2018 from 4 pm to 8 pm at the Knights of Columbus #909, 1620 E Avenue NE, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Sam was born on September 6, 1937 to George and Leona Besler Humble in Iowa County, Iowa.  He was united in marriage to Janet Clark on August 4, 1957 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.  

Sam was known to many for his passion for boxing winning 3 Golden Gloves Open Division titles for Cedar Rapids in the Flyweight  and Bantamweight classes from 1955-57. Through 1960-1990’s Sam coached boxing in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and refereed boxing matches throughout the United States. As an industrial painter, Sam worked for Link Belt Speeder/FMC and retired from Rockwell Collins Goss while farming in Benton County, where he lived. 

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Janet; children, Wendy (Jim) Sherrill of Van Horne, Karen (Jim) Kamp of Flower Mound, Texas, Samuel (Lana) Humble of Circle Pines, Minnesota, and Mary (Tom) Spore of Cedar Rapids; 11 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; siblings, Minnie (Tom) Holland, Faye Remington, Gloria Fowler, Beverly Leinart, and brother George Humble. 

Sam was preceded in death by his parents; as well as two sisters, Betty Dietz and Carolle Moneypenny, brother Gary Humble, one granddaughter Angela Sherrill, and great granddaughter Grace Benfer.
